Saturday Morning in February
Early morning in February while walking Zoe for one of her longer walks. We went down to the Lagoon Tennis Courts then cut across to English Bay, passing the Stanley Park Pitch ‘n Putt and over to the playground near Second Beach. This where we turned and took the steps down to the seawall where Zoe likes to climb up on the wall and walk along the ledge. I’ll have to take a picture of her doing that next time. People are amused when they see her trotting along the top ledge. It was a warm morning and there was still bit of frost...

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2011 has ended and we are into 2012, so maybe it’s time for a little year end wrap up, of sorts. Nothing too exciting happened to us in 2011, and thank goodness nothing disturbing either. We managed to get out once in the big rig for a bit of a holiday in September, other than that it was pretty much stay around home, except for a trip to Calgary a couple of times to deal with the preparation and sale of mother’s house. To say we don’t love being back in Vancouver would be blasphemous (sic) and that we miss...

One of the things we promised ourselves when we came back to Vancouver was to go on a Carol Ship Cruise. These are dinner cruises on various size boats that leave from Coal Harbour and I believe there is a boat or two that sails out of False Creek. The dinner cruise we went on was out of Coal harbour and I actually bought the tickets through Groupon. The price was about 50% off the regular price, but looking back I am thinking they jacked up the price so it could be discounted. I was expecting to cruise from Coal Harbour, around Stanley...

I had to travel to Calgary last week to participate in my mothers move into her new nursing home/care facility. Luckily I had changed over to winter tires about a week before I got the call that a room had been found for her. I have driven the route from Calgary to Vancouver and back and forth and forth and back more times than I can count. The 11 hour straight drive through is beginning to be a bit too much for me these days, but I still enjoy the scenery. I left Vancouver about 6:30 in the morning and was in Banff around 4 PM so I stopped by...

Anyone who knows me is familiar with my passion for tech gadgets. Recently I replaced my iPhone 3GS with a new iPhone 4 S. Why? Why not? One of the new features of this is the camera changes in the new S model. It now has 1080 HD video plus an 8 megapixel still camera. This picture was taken with my iPhone while I was out walking today. I actually took 2 pictures using an HDR function which explains why there is so much detail and clarity in this picture. I mean really, I am impressed with this new toy. However the iPhone won’t be...

I was going through my old photo’s so I could purge things that I didn’t like or thought I would never use. I came across this picture I took in July of 2003 from my balcony in the apartment I had which overlooked False Creek. Actually it’s not a creek, more of an inlet that comes in from english Bay. At one time, back in the early history of Vancouver it was probably a creek but a lot of land got developed in that area – filled in, dredged and so forth. The downtown skyline has changed a bit and the left area...

I have posted a new photo gallery page on the lookylou blog. You will notice a new tab in the navigation bar at the top at the far right, labelled “Holidays”. The first pictures in the “Holiday” gallery are from our recent September 2011 holiday when we went down and stayed in a couple of RV parks near Anacortes, Washington. We stayed for 3 nights at the Fidalgo Bay RV park before meeting up with Alan and Cory at the Pioneer Trails RV park a few miles away. So close you could almost walk from one to the other if...

I have updated the photo gallery menu slightly. There is now a hierarchy system under “Photographs” which leads to different areas. I added a section called “The Coach” which shows pictures of our motorhome, for those who have not seen it. A quaint little unit, all 40 feet in...

After taking my evening photo’s of the Inukshuk I walked back home going down Beach Avenue towards the Sylvia Hotel and the park at the corner of Denman and Davie. At the moment they are constructing some sort of new building by the sidwalk which I believe is going to be a Cactus Club eatery of sorts. Just before you get to the construction site there is a structure that is below ground and the roof is a little park area with trees, benches, etc. at the street level. If you walk along the sidewalk instead of entering the park area at...
read moreInukshuk Sunset
I missed going back on Saturday evening to get a Sunset shot of the Inukshuk so I walked back down on Sunday night to get some sunset pictures around English Bay. There were a lot of people down around the beach, not surprising as it was the last long summer weekend.
